Save Pollok Park urges National Trust – “USE YOUR VETO!”

We’ll be distributing these leaflets at the NTS AGM. Please ask if you would like copies

SAVEPOLLOKPARK LOBBIES NATIONAL TRUST MEMBERS

The National Trust for Scotland holds its Annual General Meeting in Aberdeen on Saturday, 27th September and the SavePollokPark Campaign will be there to lobby members and the NTS Board & Council to use its veto to stop the GoApe development.

We have sought legal advice on the provisions of the 1939 Conservation Agreement under which guardianship of the Pollok Estate was vested in NTS. This advice confirms that NTS is the final arbiter in any proposed development and that its approval must be sought and obtained before proceeding. In a letter to the Council in January 2008, NTS reaffirmed its objection to GoApe and that ” …the consent of the Trust is…required for change of use…” Glasgow City Council has declined to answer.

SavePollokPark has issued a press release saying:

“The move by Glasgow City Council to grant a lease to GoApe effectively privatises land gifted to the people of the city by the Stirling-Maxwell family. The NTS has objected, using its power of veto under the 1939 Conservation Agreement. However, the council is determined to proceed”

“We believe this has serious implications for all gifts under the care of the Trust. We will urge members to support the NTS in its opposition and to endorse our campaign against the inappropriate development of this historic and unique site”

AND FINALLY…

The next Public Meeting is confirmed for Tuesday, 28th October at Pollokshaws Burgh Hall at 7.30pm – put in in your diaries now and tell your friends. The agenda is not yet finalised but keep an eye on the website and newsletters for more info as soon as possible. If you have any topics you would like to discuss please let us know
